The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 43-year-old man, identified as Abubakar Adodo from Fagge Local Government Area, for allegedly attempting to traffic two women to Somalia through the Benin Republic.
According to officials, the suspect was apprehended at a motor park in Kano while preparing to travel to Lagos alongside the two victims, identified as 22-year-old Hajara Ismail from Funtua and 33-year-old Bilkisu Haruna from Kofar Marusa both in Katsina State.
Investigations revealed that the group allegedly planned to continue their journey from Lagos to Somalia before their arrest.
Speaking on the development, the Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, said the operation followed a credible tip-off from concerned citizens.
“The operation was carried out by the Officer-in-Charge of Motor Parks Operations after we received reliable information from Good Samaritans,” Sheikh Mujahid stated.
He added that the suspect and the two women have since been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and appropriate action.
