BREAKING: Bandits Kidnap Woman, Two Children Near Kogi Senator’s Residence; Bus Passengers Abducted in Separate Attack
Armed bandits carried out fresh attacks in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting multiple residents and leaving communities on edge amid rising insecurity in the region.
The latest incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 3, 2025, in Bareke, Egbe, when gunmen stormed a residential home at about 2 a.m. and abducted a woman along with her two children.
Community sources told SaharaReporters that the woman’s husband narrowly escaped, sustaining injuries in the process. The raid reportedly took place near the residence of Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly and chairs the Senate Committee on Services.
“The woman and two of her children were kidnapped right from their house around 2 a.m. this morning, while her husband escaped with wounds. It happened very close to the house of the current Kogi West Senator, Sunday Karimi, in Egbe,” a source said.
Separate Attack in Ejiba
The abduction in Bareke came less than 24 hours after a similar incident in Ejiba, another community in Yagba West, where armed men ambushed a commercial bus and kidnapped all its passengers.
During the Ejiba attack, a motorcyclist identified only by a registration number was reportedly shot dead.
The latest cases follow a series of violent incidents in the area. On Wednesday, October 1, bandits stormed Bethel Farm in Ejiba, abducting three people. Earlier that same day, the gang also attacked a bread distributor along the Ejiba–Odo-Eri route, shooting one staff member.
Photographs obtained by SaharaReporters from residents show a burnt motorcycle believed to belong to local vigilante officers who attempted to confront the assailants during the night raid.
Only days earlier, on September 26, 2025, video footage released by SaharaReporters revealed Okunran community in Yagba West completely deserted after residents fled en masse following repeated attacks by armed bandits. Empty streets and abandoned homes painted a grim picture of the displacement crisis unfolding in the region.
