Akon’s Wife, Tomeka Thiam, Files for Divorce After 29 Years — Finds Only $10,000 in His Account

Akon and wife

Senegalese-American singer and entrepreneur Akon (real name Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam) is reportedly in the middle of a messy divorce after his wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed to end their 29-year marriage — only to discover he had just $10,000 in his account.

According to reports, Tomeka filed for divorce in September 2025, citing irreconcilable differences. Court documents allegedly revealed that Akon had transferred most of his wealth to his mother’s name, leaving his personal accounts nearly empty.

Tomeka Was Seeking a $100 Million Settlement

Sources close to the case say Tomeka had been pushing for a $100 million settlement, arguing that she contributed significantly to building Akon’s vast business empire over the years. However, the revelation that the artist had no substantial assets in his name may drastically affect her payout.

The divorce filing reportedly came just days before what would have been the couple’s 29th wedding anniversary.

Fans Compare Akon to Hakimi

The news has sparked major online debate, with many comparing Akon’s move to that of Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi, who famously placed his fortune under his mother’s name before his own divorce proceedings.

Social media users have reacted with a mix of shock and amusement:

  • Hakimi influence.
  • Men are winning.
  • What if the mother decides to disown him though?
  • Looks like he took a page out of Hakimi’s book — smart move.

While Akon has yet to comment publicly, the story continues to dominate social media trends, fueling conversations about wealth, marriage, and legal strategy in high-profile relationships.
