Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has won a major legal victory after a Federal High Court awarded her ₦20 million in damages in a defamation case against an online news platform.
The case, which began nearly two years ago, stemmed from a report falsely linking the actress to an alleged romantic relationship with Senator Dino Melaye. The publication had listed her among “six popular Nigerian celebrities” accused of dating the politician — a claim Adunni Ade strongly denied, calling it both false and damaging to her reputation.
The actress subsequently sued the outlet for invasion of privacy and defamation, demanding ₦100 million in compensation.
“Truth Stood Tall,” Says Adunni Ade
Celebrating her win, Adunni Ade took to Instagram on Tuesday to share the news with fans, expressing gratitude to the judiciary for ensuring justice prevailed.
“Won my case — Adunni Ade vs. Polace Media Limited (www.naijanews.com). A false story was published about me, but truth stood tall,” she wrote.
“This judgment reaffirms that privacy matters and so does integrity. Justice delayed isn’t justice denied.”
She revealed that the court granted her ₦20 million in damages, but humorously noted that the defendant had allegedly fled to avoid payment.
“Judge granted ₦20 million in damages, but blogger don japa. Na to garnish account remain,” she joked in the comments.
Actress Vows to Pursue More Legal Actions
Adunni Ade hinted that this victory is only one of several pending defamation cases, revealing that she has already won two so far. She urged journalists and bloggers to uphold ethics and verify information before publication.
Her win has been widely celebrated in the Nollywood community, with many seeing it as a strong statement against online falsehoods, privacy violations, and character assassination.
The verdict also reinforces a growing trend of Nigerian celebrities holding media platforms accountable for spreading misinformation and damaging reputations.
