Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has been honoured with a street named after him in Lagos.
The 38-year-old artiste shared the milestone on his Instagram page, posting a video that captured the unveiling moment alongside his wife Simi and their daughter Deja. In the clip, the family is seen pulling back a red cloth to reveal the new signpost boldly reading “Adekunle Kosoko Street.”
Reflecting on the honour, the ‘Sade’ crooner expressed his gratitude, writing:
“Adekunle Kosoko Street. The city that raised me now carries my name. Thank you Lord for my many blessings.”
The naming carries deep cultural and historical meaning for Adekunle Gold, who was born in 1987 into the Kosoko royal family of Lagos Island. His lineage traces back to Oba Kosoko, who ruled as the king of Lagos from 1845 to 1851.
Adekunle Gold first rose to prominence in 2015 with his breakout hit ‘Sade’, a highlife-inspired reinterpretation of One Direction’s Story of My Life. After launching his career under YBNL Nation, he later established his independent imprint Afro Urban Records, eventually partnering with Def Jam Recordings.
His musical journey spans five acclaimed studio albums — Gold (2016), About 30 (2018), Afro Pop, Vol. 1 (2020), Catch Me If You Can (2022), and Tequila Ever After (2023).
The street naming comes just a week after the release of his highly anticipated sixth studio album, ‘Fuji’, a project that pays homage to the legendary figures of the genre, including Adewale Ayuba and Saheed Osupa.
