Shock and grief have swept through Kuchhmuchh village in Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh, after a 75-year-old man died unexpectedly the morning after his wedding to a woman nearly half his age.
The man, identified as Sangruram, had lost his first wife five years ago. Since then, he lived alone, with family members occasionally visiting him. Relatives had repeatedly advised him not to remarry at his age, but Sangruram was determined to find companionship once again. Eventually, he chose to wed Manbhavati, a 35-year-old woman.
The couple tied the knot in a simple court marriage, followed by traditional rituals in the presence of relatives and villagers. Witnesses said that after the wedding, the couple spent their first night together talking about household responsibilities, finances, and plans for their future a hopeful beginning to a new chapter in both their lives.
However, that hope was cut short. The following morning, Sangruram reportedly suffered a sudden medical emergency. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was tragically declared dead on arrival. His death left his family in shock, with grief compounded by the fact that they had only just celebrated his wedding hours earlier.
The burial was delayed as distant relatives insisted on attending the final rites, adding to the tense and emotional atmosphere in the village. News of the incident spread quickly on social media, where many people expressed their condolences while others debated the risks of old-age marriages and the emotional toll on families.
This tragedy echoes another heartbreaking story from Nigeria, where a groom-to-be also lost his life shortly before his wedding. Solomon Mawo Akpama was preparing to marry his beloved fiancée, Keltu Edith Chindo, on November 2, 2024. Sadly, just eleven days before the wedding, Solomon died in a car accident on October 22.
His close friend, Chris Azok, confirmed the news in a Facebook post. He recalled how friends had recently joked about organizing a pre-wedding gathering, never imagining that the groom would not live to see his big day. The tragic accident has left Solomon’s bride, family, and community heartbroken.
Both incidents, though worlds apart, highlight the unpredictable nature of life. Joyful celebrations can be transformed into grief in an instant, leaving behind painful memories for loved ones.
