Residents of Aiyegbami Street in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have been left in shock after a 27-year-old carpenter, identified as Toheeb Ahmed, allegedly hacked his grandmother to death.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, throwing the community into fear and confusion.
Eyewitnesses said Ahmed, who had been making late-night visits to the victim’s residence since Thursday, aroused suspicion when he casually informed a shop owner that “Mama is dead,” while warning against telling anyone.
The neighbour, troubled by his remarks, checked on the elderly woman and discovered she had been gruesomely killed. “When he returned, I noticed he was holding a cutlass and was accompanied by a friend, probably to move the corpse. That was when I raised the alarm,” the witness recounted.
The deceased, who had reportedly been blind for several years, was described by residents as a quiet and gentle woman.
Community members have condemned the incident, describing it as both heartbreaking and a sign of worsening moral decay among youths.
Police operatives from the Odigbo division have since visited the scene. The suspect was apprehended and is expected to face further investigation.
