Ohio Mother Charged After Posting Instagram Video of Torturing Her 7-Year-Old Son Before His Disappearance
A 32-year-old mother has been arrested and charged after allegedly kidnapping and torturing her 7-year-old son, then posting a disturbing video of the abuse on Instagram, according to authorities.
The suspect, identified as Tiarika Baymon, is accused of inflicting “significant abuse and torture” on her son, prompting an Amber Alert in Brunswick, Ohio, earlier this month. Police said the child was considered to be in a life-threatening condition at the time of the alert.
Investigators revealed that Baymon recorded and uploaded a video to Instagram showing her young son bound and subjected to torture.
“An Instagram video that she had uploaded actually showed the child, bound and being tortured by her,” Ross Township Police Deputy Chief Brian Kohlhepp said during a press briefing.
Authorities said the boy suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including possible broken bones. A criminal complaint also stated that Baymon struck her son in the face with a glass bottle and restrained him using belts and exercise straps.
After reviewing tracking information, officers located Baymon’s vehicle in a secluded area. Police said she was found asleep in the driver’s seat with a gun on her lap, while her son was lying in the back on folded-down seats.
“They had to reach in and unfortunately remove her from the car,” Kohlhepp explained. “She didn’t suffer any injuries as a part of that. And the gun actually fell out onto the ground during that exchange.”
Baymon was arrested on September 15 without further incident. Her son was immediately transported to a children’s hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.
Baymon now faces multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of a child, assault, and unlawful restraint. Additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.
Police said the case has shocked the community, not only because of the abuse but because Baymon chose to broadcast the alleged torture online.
Authorities confirmed that the child remains in protective custody and is expected to survive, though he faces a long recovery.
