Police in Rajasthan, India, have launched an investigation after a newborn baby was discovered abandoned with a stone in his mouth and his lips glued shut.
The infant, estimated to be between 15 and 20 days old, was found earlier this week in Bhilwara district by a cattle herder. According to witnesses, the baby had been left among a pile of rocks and rubbish. Video footage from the scene shows the herder removing the stone from the child’s mouth, after which the baby began crying.
Villagers immediately rushed the boy to Bijolia Government Hospital, where doctors confirmed the presence of adhesive not only around his lips but also on his thighs. The child remains under medical care.
Police believe the adhesive and stone were used to silence the baby and prevent detection. Detectives are reviewing recent hospital delivery records and interviewing residents in an effort to trace the child’s parents.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
This case follows several recent incidents of infant abandonment in India. Earlier this month, a five-month-old girl was rescued from bushes in Chandigarh, while in Jharkhand, a baby was pulled from a drain with fractured hands. In June, another newborn was found in a basket outside a girls’ orphanage in Maharashtra, alongside a note reportedly left by the parents citing financial hardship.
