A woman was lynched and set ablaze by a mob in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, after being accused of attempting to abduct a seven-year-old boy.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, along Ekwvere Road.
According to eyewitnesses, some residents became suspicious when they saw the woman dragging a sack. Upon questioning her and forcing the bag open, they reportedly found a young boy inside. The discovery quickly drew a large crowd.
Sources said the mob beat the woman severely before placing a used tyre around her neck and setting her on fire.
The incident has heightened tension in Agbarho, which has experienced a series of child abduction cases in recent months. Community members claim that more than 30 children have gone missing in the area over the past year.
Just last week, a man in his 20s was reportedly apprehended for attempting to abduct a child and was handed over to the police.
“This time, the crowd decided on instant justice because they feared the woman might be released if taken to the police,” one community source told Vanguard.
