Man Tells Parents: Stop Sending Your Daughters to School

A young Nigerian man has advised parents to stop sending their daughters to school if they cannot afford the fees.

He explained that instead of sending a girl to school without proper support, the little money available should be used to establish her in a trade. According to him, it is better to train a girl in a skill, open a shop for her, and ensure she becomes good at what she does, rather than sending her to school and leaving her stranded. He noted that some parents force their children into tertiary institutions but fail to provide financial support, leaving them to look for other means to survive.

The man added that this lack of support has pushed many young women into dangerous paths, including falling victim to yahoo boys, ritualists, and engaging in hookups. He lamented that some girls even end up sending money back home while still struggling in school. In his conclusion, he advised that parents who know they cannot fully afford school fees should rather send their daughters to learn a trade.

The remarks sparked heated reactions online. Some agreed with him, while others strongly opposed his stance, arguing that both male and female children deserve equal opportunities in education.
