Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Neighbour’s Three Children in Anambra

Tension has gripped residents of Awka village in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State after a man, identified as Chiemerie Onuigbo, was arrested for allegedly abducting three children belonging to his neighbour.

The incident, according to reports, happened on Tuesday evening while the children’s mother was feeding them outside their home. She was said to have gone into the kitchen to get more food, only to return and discover that her three children aged six, three, and two had disappeared.

Confirming the incident in a press statement, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was apprehended by vigilant youths in the community. Preliminary investigations revealed that Onuigbo, in collaboration with two accomplices who are currently on the run, carried out the abduction.

Ikenga explained that the suspect, who lives in the same neighbourhood as the victims, had allegedly been harbouring the fleeing accomplices. He was caught and beaten by an angry mob before being rescued by police officers.

“The children are yet to be rescued from the fleeing suspects, but frantic efforts are being made to reunite them with their mother,” the police spokesman assured.

The development has sparked outrage in the community, with residents calling for more vigilance and security consciousness to prevent similar incidents. Police say investigations are ongoing and manhunt efforts have intensified to track down the fleeing suspects and safely recover the missing children.
