A 39-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her husband in Kollam district, Kerala, on Monday morning, in a crime that has shocked the state for both its brutality and the disturbing aftermath. The accused not only killed his wife but went live on Facebook to confess before surrendering to the police.
The victim, identified as Shalini, a resident of Placheri in Valakkodu, was reportedly attacked at around 6:30 a.m. while she was taking a bath near the pipeline behind the family’s kitchen. According to the First Information Report (FIR), her husband Isaac ambushed her with a knife, inflicting deep injuries to her neck, chest, and back. Police said the injuries proved fatal and Shalini died on the spot.
Minutes after the killing, Isaac went live on Facebook and admitted to murdering his wife. In the video, which quickly spread online before being taken down, he made personal allegations against Shalini, accusing her of mistrust and misuse of jewellery. The chilling video left viewers horrified, prompting immediate reports to both Facebook and local police.
After streaming the confession, Isaac went directly to the police station and surrendered, stating that he had murdered his wife.
Police rushed to the residence and confirmed Shalini’s death. Her body was shifted to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered against Isaac under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (murder), based on a complaint lodged by the couple’s 19-year-old son.
Forensic experts have begun examining the crime scene, while both Shalini’s and Isaac’s mobile phones have been seized as part of the investigation. Authorities are also analyzing the deleted Facebook video to gather digital evidence.
Preliminary reports suggest that the couple had been facing longstanding marital disputes, which may have escalated into the violent confrontation. Neighbors and relatives have reportedly told investigators that frequent arguments were common in the household.
The shocking incident comes just days after a similar case in Madhya Pradesh, where a man fatally shot his wife outside a stadium in Gwalior in broad daylight, later expressing no remorse. Experts have pointed to a worrying rise in cases of domestic violence leading to extreme outcomes across India.
Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the provincial police spokesperson, condemned the killing, describing it as “an act of unimaginable cruelty.” Kollam district police chief has assured that the case will be pursued swiftly and justice delivered.
Authorities are also urging the public to recognize early signs of domestic violence and to report such cases before they escalate into tragedies.
