Nigerian singer and songwriter Spyro has opened up about his music journey, reflecting on the highs and hard lessons that came after his much-publicized collaborations with Afrobeats giants Davido and Mayorkun.
In a candid interview, the Who’s Your Guy crooner admitted that he once believed landing such major features would transform his career overnight. “I thought my life will grow bigger when I had Davido and Mayorkun on my record,” Spyro confessed. “But the reality was very different. It didn’t happen the way I expected.”
While the collaborations gave him visibility and credibility in the industry, Spyro said they did not immediately translate into the fame, fortune, and recognition he envisioned. Instead, he found himself still fighting to carve out his own identity and prove his worth beyond star-powered features.
The singer revealed that the experience humbled him, teaching him that no feature—no matter how big—can replace hard work, consistency, and authenticity. “What I realized is that it’s not about who you feature,” he explained. “It’s about who you are and what you bring to the table as an artist.”
Looking back, Spyro now sees the setback as a blessing in disguise. The disappointment fueled his determination to refine his sound, stay patient, and lean on faith in his pursuit of success. He credits his eventual breakthrough not to star features, but to persistence and belief in his own artistry.
