A Hull man with a long history of harassment and repeated breaches of court orders has been jailed again after targeting his own mother and assaulting a police officer during his arrest.
Lee Daniels, 34, appeared at Hull Crown Court where he admitted harassing his mother and assaulting an emergency worker following his arrest on July 19. Daniels, described as a “serial offender” by the prosecution, has been caught in a cycle of harassment, imprisonment, and reoffending for years.
The court heard that Daniels was subject to a five-year restraining order imposed on June 28, 2023, preventing him from contacting his mother. The order followed a string of incidents in which Daniels persistently harassed her for money and verbally abused her.
Despite the order, police were called to the woman’s home in July after reports that Daniels was once again there. Officers searched a bedroom and found him inside. When told he was under arrest, Daniels attempted to push past a female officer, asking: “What are you doing?” and protesting: “Stalking who? I have been invited here.”
As he was escorted out of the house, Daniels lashed out. He kicked the female officer in the shin, causing immediate pain, before spitting directly into her face. During the confrontation, he shouted threats at the officers, warning: “I’m going to bite one of your noses off.”
Daniels then declared that he had hepatitis B, further escalating the seriousness of the assault.
Prosecutor Billy Torbett revealed that Daniels has 89 previous convictions, including 32 for breaching court orders. He has been repeatedly jailed for targeting his mother. In June 2023, he received a one-year sentence for harassment and breaching a non-molestation order. Just months later, in November 2023, he was jailed for eight months after making hundreds of phone calls and text messages to his mother, demanding money, and visiting her home on multiple occasions in direct violation of the order.
Daniels has also been convicted of breaching domestic violence protection orders involving an ex-girlfriend, further highlighting his repeated disregard for court restrictions.
Defence barrister Jane Rapin told the court that Daniels pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing before Hull Magistrates’ Court. She argued that while Daniels had repeatedly ignored previous court orders, he was now showing signs of change.
“His first taste of prison was when he was 18 and he is now 34,” said Rapin. “He has been totally clean of drugs for almost two months. At the time that a drug rehabilitation order was in place, he would not engage with probation. Now, he feels differently and says he is willing to accept help.”
Judge Alexander Menary was unconvinced, noting Daniels’ long history of reoffending. “This is the third breach of this order. There have been very many previous breaches of restraining orders and non-molestation orders. It has been a revolving door of going into prison,” the judge said.
He sentenced Daniels to 12 months in prison and confirmed that the current restraining order preventing him from contacting his mother would remain in force.
The ruling means Daniels, who has spent much of his adult life behind bars for similar offences, faces yet another stint in custody as his cycle of harassment and reoffending continues.
