Elizabeth Banks may be one of Hollywood’s most versatile stars an acclaimed actress, producer, and businesswoman but as she told HELLO! in an exclusive chat, family always comes first.
Fresh off six months in Toronto filming The Miniature Wife alongside Matthew Macfadyen, Banks quickly returned to her most important role: being mom to sons Felix, 14, and Magnus, 12, whom she shares with her husband, producer Max Handelman.
“It’s a big transition year for everybody,” Banks said. “One is going into high school, and the other is starting at a new school. I was in Toronto filming for half of it, so I’m just going to be home for the fall. I’m excited to be nesting with my kids as they go through this big transition.”
The Pitch Perfect star admitted she finds parenting teens fascinating.
“Teenagers are so interesting. Puberty is such an incredible time. It’s going to go really fast. I know they are going to change, but they don’t know it yet. They are very impatient to grow up bigger and older.”
Banks has long been candid about setting firm but thoughtful boundaries for her children. In 2023, she revealed that her kids weren’t allowed smartphones — a rule she’s largely stuck with.
“My seventh grader still hasn’t got a phone. He just started middle school. No phone. I promise you all the parents that it can be done — and he’s surviving,” she said with a smile. “They’re not allowed social media, and we don’t let devices in their bedrooms at night. We have a lot of boundaries, and they’re actually very compliant.”
Even skincare has become a family activity, with her youngest often asking her to give him facials at home.
At 51, Banks credits part of her youthful glow to her work as an ambassador for No7, the British beauty brand she’s partnered with since 2023.
“What I love about this brand is it’s easy skincare backed by science. They’ve done all the research so I don’t have to,” she said. “The Future Renew Damage Reversal range took 15 years to make, and it’s at a price point everyone can afford. That was really important to me.”
The actress especially loves the brand’s new Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Serum, which syncs with the skin’s circadian rhythm while you sleep.
“I tell my kids that their bodies do all their repair while they sleep. This technology works with that natural process. It gives the phrase ‘beauty sleep’ a whole new meaning.”
Even during her busy filming schedule, Banks has kept close ties with her Hollywood peers. While in Toronto, she sent flowers to actress Elle Fanning, who was cast as a young Effie Trinket in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping.
“I was truly excited for her and excited to see what she does with the role,” Banks said warmly. “I have nothing but the best feelings for that whole world.”
Between her Emmy nomination, her skincare ambassadorship, and her return to television, Elizabeth Banks is thriving. But at the heart of it all is her devotion to family.
“I’ve got a lot going on, but I’m just excited to be home, celebrating holidays, my brother’s wedding, and this new chapter with my kids.”
