A California nurse has described a harrowing near-death experience that she claims gave her a terrifying glimpse of Hell, complete with demonic beings and endless cycles of torment.
Bridgette Candace, a frontline healthcare worker during the Covid-19 pandemic, says her ordeal began after what doctors first dismissed as stress-related symptoms. She recalled suffering from breathing difficulties, cardiac arrhythmia, and severe anxiety attacks not long after receiving a routine vaccination.
“At the time, everybody was saying, ‘It’s not the shot, it’s just stress. We’re overwhelmed with work,’” Bridgette said. “But I knew something was wrong. I felt like I couldn’t breathe.”
Her condition worsened over the following weeks. Despite repeated visits to hospitals and doctors, Bridgette said she was told she was “faking” her illness. Only when she saw a throat specialist did the severity of her condition become clear. “She scoped me and said: ‘I don’t know how you’re alive, but you are, and you need emergency surgery right now. Your airway is the size of a pencil lead or smaller,’” Bridgette recalled.
Shortly after surgery, Bridgette slipped into a coma. It was then, she claims, that she was “transported” into a nightmarish realm resembling Hell.
According to her account, the underworld was governed by beings that looked like ancient Egyptian gods, who presided over organized cycles of punishment. She said she witnessed other souls reliving their worst fears again and again.
“There was this family mom, dad, two kids and they were forced to watch their children executed over and over. Then either the mom or dad would be killed, and it would start all over again,” she told the Touching the Afterlife podcast.
In another disturbing vision, Bridgette described a man being forced to kill his own baby: “They strapped the baby to a wall and told the father to shoot it or they would torture the child further. He was crying and crying. When he finally pulled the trigger, he missed several times, hitting different parts of the baby before finally killing it. It was unbearable to watch.”
Other scenes, she said, included people being set on fire as punishment for practicing yoga, while she herself was strapped to a bed and judged by a towering, godlike figure who “weighed her life in the balance.”
Bridgette claims that after days of torment, she cried out for help from Jesus. That, she says, was the moment she suddenly woke from her coma nine or ten days after slipping under.
The nurse has since devoted her life to Christianity, using her experience as testimony in podcasts and public talks. “It wasn’t just a dream. I was there,” she insists. “And I never want anyone else to go through what I saw.”
Near-death experiences (NDEs) are a subject of ongoing debate among scientists, theologians, and psychologists. While many survivors describe peaceful visions involving light or deceased loved ones, others, like Bridgette, recount terrifying encounters that some interpret as manifestations of trauma or brain activity during critical illness.
For Bridgette, however, the message is clear. She now sees her survival as a second chance, and she shares her story as a warning. “Hell is real,” she said. “But so is salvation.”
