Authorities are investigating the deaths of three family members who were found fatally shot inside their Georgetown apartment over the weekend.
The victims have been identified as 34-year-old Alonzo Hawkins, 39-year-old Doneisha Brooks, and her 8-year-old daughter, Olivia, affectionately known as “Froggy.” Police confirmed all three died from multiple gunshot wounds and believe the victims knew their killer.
The family had only recently relocated to Georgetown in May 2024. Relatives said Brooks had found a job, secured an apartment, and purchased a car, while Hawkins moved in hopes of starting over in what they thought would be a safer environment.
Concerns mounted when relatives could not reach them. A friend who went to check on the home discovered the bodies.
The killings have shaken loved ones and members of the Mansfield community, where the Brooks family is well known. Pastor Michael Evans urged the public to share any information that could aid investigators, while Olivia’s aunt described the young girl as a “little spitfire” who was looking forward to celebrating her ninth birthday in October.
Family friend Diana Perez remembered Doneisha’s love for gardening and baking, especially her pineapple upside-down cake. Perez, who once drove Doneisha and Alonzo on her school bus, said the tragedy has been particularly painful for her granddaughter, who was close friends with Olivia.
“This has never happened in our family that we have to tell an 8-year-old that her good friend passed away and how,” Perez said.
Georgetown police confirmed they have identified a person of interest but have not released a name. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Meanwhile, relatives expressed frustration over what they described as limited communication from authorities. “Georgetown is not giving us answers right now at this moment,” said Joseph Brooks, a family member.
A GoFundMe campaign launched to assist with funeral expenses has raised more than $15,000.
