A 19-year-old woman, identified as Shikha, has died in an apparent case of suicide at her home in Paras village, Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, police confirmed on Thursday.
According to officials, the incident occurred when Shikha’s father was away in Gujarat and her mother was working in the agricultural fields. When the mother returned home, she discovered her daughter unresponsive and immediately alerted the police. The body was subsequently taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators said they recovered a message written on Shikha’s hand, which appeared to serve as a suicide note. The message reportedly read: “I have no will to live. Cremate me next to Abhishek. Call Ranu too. Don’t worry, mother. Take care of Kallu after I’m gone.” Police sources said Ranu is Shikha’s fiancé, while Kallu is believed to be her younger sibling.
Authorities revealed that Shikha’s death comes just days after her cousin, Abhishek, died of a snake bite in Delhi. Family members said the teenager had been deeply affected by his sudden death, and investigators believe this may have contributed to her decision.
Confirming the case, officers at Shivagarh police station said they are awaiting the autopsy report to establish the exact cause of death. The case is under investigation, and further statements will be made after the medical report is received.
Local villagers have expressed shock over the incident, describing Shikha as a quiet and devoted young woman. Police have urged the community to remain calm as inquiries continue.
