A 14-year-old girl, Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, tragically passed away following an unauthorized cosmetic surgery in Durango, Mexico. The procedure, which included breast enlargement, liposuction, and a Brazilian Butt Lift, was reportedly arranged by her mother without the knowledge or consent of her father, Carlos Arellano. Paloma suffered severe complications, leading to cardiorespiratory arrest and brain swelling. Her death certificate listed cerebral edema caused by a respiratory illness, but her father disputes this, alleging a cover-up.
During the funeral, Carlos noticed signs of recent surgery, including breast implants and surgical scars, prompting him to request an autopsy. The surgeon involved, Dr. VÃctor Manuel, a 45-year-old plastic surgeon, has been suspended pending investigation by the Durango State Prosecutor's Office. Authorities are examining possible negligence by both the surgeon and Paloma's mother, who is accused of placing her daughter in a risky situation.
This incident has raised concerns about illegal cosmetic surgeries on minors in Mexico, where such procedures typically require written consent from both parents. The case has sparked a broader debate about the regulation of cosmetic surgeries for minors and the need for stricter oversight to prevent similar tragedies.
