Traffic along the busy Na’ibawa axis of Zaria Road in Kano was brought to a standstill on Tuesday morning after a bank convoy allegedly hit a tricycle, injuring two passengers, and fled the scene without offering help.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. when a speeding money convoy, escorted by armed security personnel, struck a tricycle near the Na’ibawa flyover. The open door of one of the escort vehicles reportedly caused the crash, with one guard allegedly striking the tricycle with a stick before the convoy sped off. In response, youths, mostly tricycle riders, blocked the highway, burning tyres and demanding justice.
Security personnel reportedly fired teargas to disperse the gathering crowd. The protest lasted nearly an hour and was only quelled after the Na’ibawa Divisional Police Officer (DPO) arrived at the scene, assisted the injured to the hospital, and assured the public that the victims would be taken care of.
By the time of the report, normalcy had returned to the area.
