President Bola Tinubu has sent a rallying cry to Nigeria’s Super Falcons ahead of tonight’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against tournament hosts Morocco at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium. In a personally signed statement released on Saturday, the President expressed the nation’s pride in the team’s bid for a record-extending 10th continental title.
“Your awe‑inspiring performances have united Nigerians at home and abroad,” Tinubu wrote, lauding the Falcons’ unbeaten run through the group stage, victories in knockout rounds, and a defensive record of conceding just one goal in the semi‑finals. “If statistics alone won matches, you are already champions.”
He also commended the squad’s spirit of sportsmanship, notably their compassionate visit to injured South African midfielder Gabriela Salgado, an act Tinubu said reflects “our shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly affection.”
To underscore full government support, the President announced a high‑powered presidential delegation in Rabat, led by:
- Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy
- Doris Uzoka‑Anite, Minister of State for Finance
- Imaan Suleiman‑Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs
- Shehu Dikko, Chairman, National Sports Commission
Tinubu also thanked the families of the players, coaching staff, the Nigerian diaspora in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, and the Nigerian Mission in Rabat for their unwavering encouragement.
Closing his message, the President urged:
“You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home. Your fellow countrymen and women, young and old, are rooting for you.”
He looks forward to welcoming the team, national officials, and the prized trophy back in Abuja upon a victorious return. Tonight, an entire nation will be watching, and praying, for history to be made.
