A violent altercation involving multiple women broke out aboard Chicago's Red Line subway near the 47th Street Station on June 22, raising further alarm about safety on a transit route increasingly labeled as one of the most dangerous in the country.
Footage circulating online this week shows a group of women engaged in a brutal fight inside a train car as terrified passengers scramble to get away. Shouts of “No!” and “Break it up!” can be heard in the background, while several riders stand by filming the melee.
A man seen in the video attempts to intervene but also appears to kick one of the women during the scuffle. The exact nature of his involvement remains unclear.
Chicago Police Department has reportedly found no incident report or call logs associated with the fight, raising questions about enforcement and security presence on the Red Line already under scrutiny due to a series of recent violent incidents.
The Red Line, which runs 24/7 through the heart of Chicago, has faced criticism for its deteriorating safety conditions. Officials have previously described challenges in maintaining order along the line, especially during late hours, with many riders calling for increased police presence and transit patrols.
As of now, there have been no arrests or official statements from the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). The investigation is ongoing.
