Two Nigerian nationals have been arrested in Tolichowki, a suburb of Hyderabad, for overstaying their visas and alleged involvement in drug-related activities, Indian authorities confirmed.
The suspects, identified as Aful Clement, 29, and Lazarus Favour, 19, were apprehended on Wednesday by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW). The arrests were made in coordination with the Tolichowki Police and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
According to local media outlet Metro India, both men had been residing illegally in India and had recently relocated to Hyderabad from Bengaluru, raising suspicions among local law enforcement.
While no narcotics were recovered at the time of arrest, investigators believe the duo were actively involved in drug peddling and pose a threat to national security.
Clement reportedly entered India on a business visa, but his documents expired in 2019. He had previously been arrested in 2022 for a cheating case by police in Chandigarh and served six months in jail. After his release, he remained in India without legal employment or valid documentation.
Lazarus arrived on a student visa, allegedly to pursue studies in science and technology. However, authorities claim he became involved with drug offenders shortly after arriving.
“Their activities were deemed a threat to national security,” said a senior H-NEW official. “We are now working with immigration authorities to initiate deportation proceedings.”
The Foreigners Regional Registration Office is currently processing their case.
The arrests come as Indian authorities ramp up operations targeting foreign nationals involved in illegal activities, especially related to the drug trade.
