Nigerian international entertainer, DJ Dimple, has stirred global outrage after publicly detailing a harrowing experience of detention and dehumanization at the hands of Philippine immigration officials, despite possessing valid travel documents.
In a powerful statement shared via social media, DJ Dimple recounted being detained for over 48 hours, stripped naked, denied communication, and forced to sleep on a cold floor—all without any official explanation for her denial of entry.
“They took my phone and passport. I wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone. They made me take off my clothes completely and searched me like a criminal. I slept on the floor with no food or blanket,” she wrote.
The incident occurred at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, where she had arrived for a personal vacation, having booked a stay at a five-star hotel. According to Dimple, immigration officials became suspicious of her intentions and dismissed her valid documents, hotel reservation, and travel history.
“They never told me why I was denied entry. They just decided I didn’t deserve to be in their country,” she added.
Her account has since gone viral, sparking fierce condemnation on social media under the trending hashtag #JusticeForDJDimple. Nigerians at home and abroad, alongside human rights activists, are demanding accountability from the Philippine government and urgent intervention from the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Even more alarming, DJ Dimple claimed she witnessed similar treatment of other African women, hinting at broader issues of racial profiling and discriminatory immigration practices in the country.
“This is bigger than me. It’s about every African who’s been silenced, humiliated, and mistreated for carrying a passport seen as a threat,” she concluded.
The traumatic incident has reignited global conversations on the maltreatment of African travelers—many of whom are subjected to invasive scrutiny, unjust detainment, and inhumane conditions, despite adhering to legal entry protocols.
