Terrorists Kill Immigration Officer, Burn Body in Niger State

A Superintendent of Immigration, identified simply as Suleiman, has been gruesomely killed and his body set ablaze by suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a coordinated terrorist attack in Lumma Sanke, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The deadly assault, which took place on Saturday evening, targeted the Luma Immigration Service Patrol Outpost along the Babanna-Wawa Road, a known border surveillance route. The terrorists reportedly arrived in large numbers, unleashing violence that left security infrastructure in ruins.

Sources within the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) told Daily Trust that several official vehicles, motorcycles, and personal belongings of security personnel were destroyed during the attack.

“When the terrorists carried out the attack, Officer Suleiman was killed, and his body was set ablaze. Another personnel, Ahmed, is missing, and there is no information about him yet,” a source disclosed.

In a related development, a mobile police checkpoint located at Luma Ba’are, also in the Borgu area, was reportedly attacked almost simultaneously. Though the extent of damage or casualties at that location remains unconfirmed, residents say the two attacks occurred within minutes of each other, suggesting a coordinated assault by the armed group.

Local residents expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the region. One community member, speaking on condition of anonymity, said:

“The attacks were carried out at both the Nigeria Immigration Outpost at Luma-Sanke and the Mopol checkpoint at Luma-Ba’are. This is becoming unbearable. Terrorists are having a field day in the area.”

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The Niger State Police Command and NIS are expected to launch an investigation and reinforce security in the affected border communities.

This latest attack underscores the growing reach and boldness of ISWAP fighters, particularly in border areas where security presence remains thin and poorly resourced.
