Operatives of the Special Taskforce Committee on Environmental Protection, Public Safety, and Prohibition of Deforestation have intercepted a trailer transporting 350 bags of iron monoxide in Taraba State.
The trailer was reportedly loaded in Gashaka Local Government Area and was being moved in violation of Governor Agbu Kefas’ directive, which currently suspends all mining activities across the state.
According to the taskforce, the operators not only defied the state-wide mining ban but also attempted to evade designated government revenue checkpoints along the route.
The truck and its contents have since been handed over to the Special Mobile Court sitting in Jalingo for further investigation and prosecution.
Taskforce officials emphasized that the interception reflects the state government’s renewed commitment to cracking down on illegal mining and safeguarding the environment.
Governor Kefas had earlier declared a total ban on mining in Taraba due to growing concerns over environmental degradation, land misuse, and illegal operations threatening the state’s ecological balance.
Authorities reaffirmed that similar enforcement operations will be sustained across all local government areas to ensure full compliance with the directive.
