The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old suspected cultist and vandal, Pius Pius, in connection with the possession of a human skull and vandalised public electrical infrastructure in Oku Abak, Abak Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspect was apprehended on Sunday, July 20, at No. 80 School Road, Oku Abak, following credible intelligence.

“At approximately 6:55 PM, police operatives acting on actionable intelligence proceeded to the location and apprehended one Pius Pius, a 40-year-old male,” the statement read.

Upon conducting a search of the suspect’s residence, officers reportedly discovered disturbing items, including:

  • A human skull
  • One transformer step-down insulator
  • One circuit breaker
  • One electric meter
  • A number of fuses

DSP John confirmed that during initial interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Iceland Confraternity, a notorious cult group allegedly linked to both infrastructure vandalism and other criminal activities in the region.

“Mr. Pius confessed to being a member of the Iceland Confraternity, a group reportedly involved in the destruction of critical public infrastructure,” she stated.

Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the human skull and to identify other individuals possibly connected to the crimes.

“Further developments will be communicated as they unfold,” DSP John added.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb cult-related violence and the growing menace of electrical infrastructure sabotage across the state.
