After spending more than a decade in a local animal shelter, a rescue dog named Thor has finally found his forever home — and it all started with a luxury hotel vacation.
Thor, a mixed-breed dog, was taken in by the Sa Coma animal shelter on the Spanish island of Ibiza over 10 years ago after being found abandoned in the street. Despite being chipped, no owner was ever located, and Thor remained at the shelter, waiting for a family that never came — until now.
In a twist of fate, Thor was selected to participate in the launch of Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay’s new dog-friendly hospitality initiative, Tails of Talamanca. The program offers upscale amenities for canine guests, including a gourmet dog menu curated by the hotel’s head chef, organic grooming products, memory foam beds, spa treatments, and access to dog-friendly areas around the island.
Joanna Ramonell, director of marketing at Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay, had worked with the shelter on past initiatives and specifically invited several Sa Coma dogs, including Thor, to be the first guests of the new program.
“Thor was a true connoisseur when it came to sampling the gourmet offerings,” said Ramonell. “But what truly lit him up was the affection and attention he received. Our team gave him the full five-star experience.”
Thor’s stay — which included relaxing on a private terrace and enjoying custom meals — gained widespread media coverage. Television segments and social media posts featuring Thor quickly went viral, drawing attention to his story and sparking an outpouring of interest in adopting him.
Just days after his visit to the hotel, Sa Coma was flooded with adoption inquiries. One of those applications turned out to be the perfect match.
Thor has since been adopted and is now living in the Ibizan countryside with a loving family and three other dogs. According to Ramonell, he is enjoying “a beautiful, free life surrounded by love, nature, and canine companionship.”
After more than 10 years behind shelter gates, Thor’s journey from overlooked rescue to VIP guest — and finally, beloved pet — marks a powerful reminder of how compassion and visibility can change lives.
