A tragic incident has shocked residents of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, where a seven-months pregnant nurse was allegedly lured and gruesomely murdered in what appears to be a ritual killing.
The victim, identified simply as Ngozi, was reportedly called in the early hours of Thursday, July 24, 2025, by a man named Chiemelie Obiorji, popularly known as Obitex, who allegedly claimed that his mother was critically ill and needed urgent medical attention.
According to local sources, Nurse Ngozi, who lived in the same neighborhood as the suspect, left her home around 1 a.m. to attend to the alleged emergency. However, unknown to her, Obiorji had fabricated the story and, with the help of four other men, allegedly killed the nurse shortly after she arrived.
A community member who spoke under the condition of anonymity stated, “Obitex told her that his mother was sick and kept pestering her to come over. Out of compassion and professionalism, she went only to be murdered upon arrival. They reportedly mutilated her body and dumped it in a bush near his house.”
Residents say that before leaving her home, the nurse informed a neighbor of her destination. When she did not return, the neighbor raised an alarm, prompting locals to search Obiorji’s home. Upon arrival, they discovered he had fled. A subsequent search led to the discovery of Ngozi’s lifeless body in a nearby bush.
The victim was from Ikpamodo, a community in Enugu Ezike, located in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Sources claim that the suspect, Obiorji, has since been arrested by police, though an official statement from the Anambra State Police Command is yet to be released as of press time.
The community is in mourning, and the gruesome murder has sparked renewed calls for increased security and the protection of healthcare workers, especially those offering home services.
