The Nigeria Police Force has announced the successful neutralisation of three armed bandits and the recovery of 10 AK-47 rifles during coordinated intelligence-led operations carried out across five states in July.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed the development on Sunday, describing the operation as a significant blow to criminal syndicates threatening national peace and security.
According to Adejobi, the operations were conducted by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa, Nasarawa, and Niger States.
“The bandits, who attempted to escape upon sighting operatives, were fatally subdued after intense gunfire exchanges,” he stated. “Some fled into surrounding terrains with gunshot injuries, abandoning their weapons in the process.”
The recovered weapons — ten AK-47 rifles — are believed to be linked to a string of kidnappings, armed robberies, gunrunning, and cattle rustling across the affected regions.
Adejobi confirmed that follow-up tactical operations are currently underway to track down other members of the criminal networks responsible for violent attacks in the region.
“These individuals have been indicted in masterminding deadly assaults on communities in these states,” he noted.
In response to the success of the operation, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reiterated the Force’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal enterprises across the country.
“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to intensify intelligence-led efforts to ensure national security. We remain resolute in our constitutional duty to protect life and property,” IGP Egbetokun said.
The Police also urged the public to support ongoing efforts by providing credible, actionable intelligence to nearby police formations or through official communication channels.
