A 32-year-old woman, identified as Modinat Saka, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for the alleged murder of her tenant, Ganiu Abdullahi, following a violent altercation at their residence in the Agbado area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at a residential building on Ifelodun Street, Agbado. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police investigations, the confrontation began with a heated verbal exchange between the suspect and the 40-year-old victim.
Sources familiar with the matter said the dispute, believed to have stemmed from ongoing personal tensions between the two, escalated into a physical fight inside the victim’s room. During the scuffle, Ganiu Abdullahi allegedly attacked the suspect with a piece of broken glass, cutting her hand in the process.
In what police are describing as a retaliatory act, Modinat Saka reportedly grabbed a broken bottle and stabbed the victim in the chest. Neighbours alerted the authorities after hearing screams and discovering the victim lying motionless on the floor.
Emergency responders and police officers from the local division arrived at the scene shortly after, where Ganiu was pronounced dead from the injuries sustained. Crime scene investigators cordoned off the area, collected forensic evidence, and documented the scene through photographs and witness statements.
The deceased's body was evacuated and taken to Life Channel Morgue located along Olambe Alausa Road for autopsy, as part of the ongoing investigation.
Speaking on the case, a senior police official confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect is currently being held in custody. “The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Abeokuta for a thorough investigation and possible arraignment,” the official added.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) has not issued an official statement, but sources indicate that legal proceedings will commence once investigations are concluded.
Residents of the area expressed shock over the incident, describing the victim as quiet and unproblematic. Many also called for a swift and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served.
