Popular TikTok influencer Shamsodium, known for his vocal criticism of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo in connection to the late singer Mohbad’s death, has been arrested.
Sources confirm that Shamsodium was taken into custody after leading a series of demonstrations targeting Iyabo Ojo and Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi. The protests, held in various Lagos markets, featured placards, chants, and images accusing the two women of alleged complicity in the controversial death of the 27-year-old singer.
A video circulating online earlier this month showed Shamsodium publicly chanting curses and vowing that “it would not end well” for those he believes were involved in Mohbad’s demise. Protesters could be seen displaying enlarged photos of Ojo, Wunmi, and Mohbad while chanting against them. Reports indicate that Shamsodium was arrested by individuals posing as business associates.
The arrest comes just days after a fire broke out at Iyabo Ojo’s Lagos office. The actress, 47, confirmed the incident via social media, stating that although the damage was extensive, no lives were lost.
In a related development, Ojo’s daughter, Priscilla Ojo, revealed that a threatening letter was delivered to the same office prior to the fire. The letter, dated May 24, was allegedly signed by a group identifying itself as the “Aggrieved Group” and contained direct threats against the family, particularly targeting Priscilla’s recent wedding ceremony in Tanzania.
“You put someone in trouble and you’re out enjoying giving out your daughter in marriage, abi? … We shall render that your daughter’s marriage useless and rubbish it,” an excerpt from the letter read.
According to Priscilla, the letter was left unread as Iyabo had already travelled for the wedding. She believes the fire incident may have been a follow-up act after the group’s initial plan to disrupt the wedding failed.
Authorities have yet to publicly link Shamsodium’s arrest to the threats or the fire incident. However, given the sequence of events, speculations are mounting about possible connections between the protests, the threatening correspondence, and the act of arson.
The Nigerian Police have not issued an official statement as investigations continue.
Mohbad’s death in September 2023 remains a topic of intense public interest and speculation, with calls for justice still resonating across the country.
