On Sunday, the ordeal of the anonymous man who said he is now trapped in confusion and heartbreak, unsure of the paternity of his child and caught in a web of loyalty and deep personal betrayal.
The narrator said that years ago, he was a desperate young man caught attempting to steal from a warehouse. Instead of prosecuting him, the warehouse owner whom he refers to as “Chairman” chose to help him. The man was offered a job as a driver and eventually rose to become Chairman’s personal assistant.
“He gave me a second chance when no one else would,” he said. “I was loyal to him.”
That loyalty would later be shaken by revelations that left him emotionally devastated.
The narrator recounted that years after starting his job, he began a relationship with a young woman named Muyi whom he later married after she became pregnant. Muyi is the daughter of a woman known as Alhaja, a supplier often seen meeting with Chairman at discreet locations.
Chairman, it turned out, had not only been involved with Alhaja, but also with her two daughters including the narrator’s wife and her older sister.
“I had no idea. I went to him to help facilitate our marriage,” he said. “All this time, he knew he had been with her and her family. Three generations… it’s hard to wrap my head around it.”
The revelations began after a night out with colleagues, when a drunken joke exposed suspicions within the workplace. One colleague remarked, “The baby go get Chairman’s head, the body go be your own.”
At first, the narrator dismissed it as drunken talk. But laughter turned to awkward silence, prompting him to confront his wife. Her initial refusal to speak gave way to a confession confirming what he feared
Now, the man says he feels trapped unable to leave his job for financial reasons, but equally unable to trust the people closest to him. He confessed that he now looks at the child he once rejoiced over and wonders if he is truly the biological father.
“I’m stuck,” he said. “I don’t even know what to do anymore. I don’t even know if the baby is mine.”
He has not disclosed whether he plans to pursue a paternity test or confront his boss further, but he says the emotional toll has left him questioning everything in his life.
