Two students of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, have been abducted by suspected kidnappers while traveling along the Polytechnic-Azagba road in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
According to reports gathered. The victims — both students from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology — were attacked while driving home to Asaba in a Toyota saloon car on Friday evening around 6:45 p.m.
Sources from the community revealed that one of the victims, a married female student, was behind the wheel and had offered a ride to her male classmate. They were reportedly double-crossed by armed men and forcibly taken away.
₦10 Million Ransom Paid
The female victim was reportedly released on Sunday after her family paid a ransom of ₦10 million. However, the second student remains in captivity as of Monday.
“The lady, on the wheels, is married and was giving her classmate a ride to Asaba when the incident occurred. The kidnappers have released her after collecting about ₦10 million, but her classmate is still being held,” a source close to the situation.
The vehicle used by the victims is currently being held at the Ogwa-Ukwu Police Station, pending further investigation.
Police Yet to Confirm Incident
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Delta State, SP Bright Edafe, stated that he was not yet aware of the incident.
“I am not aware of this,” Edafe said in response to inquiries on the abduction.
The incident has raised concerns among students and residents about the increasing rate of kidnapping and insecurity in the state, especially targeting students and commuters.
