A 47-year-old Indian national, Kalidass Arunachalam, has died after reportedly collapsing while on duty at a factory in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The incident occurred on Friday, July 26, at Green Hills Agricultural Products Ltd., where Arunachalam served as a production manager. According to company sources, the deceased had been carrying out his routine duties when he suddenly slumped at about 11:30 a.m. within the company’s operational area.
Eyewitnesses said that Arunachalam’s collapse caused panic among workers, prompting an immediate response from company officials. Among those who responded were fellow Indian colleague Tushar Tukaram Phadtare, the company’s Managing Director, Suleman Dauda, and the Chief Security Officer, retired Lt. Col. Thompson Udom.
The management team quickly arranged for the victim to be transported to God’s Spring Best Care Hospital, located in the Obaretin community, in a bid to save his life. Medical personnel at the hospital reportedly made urgent efforts to resuscitate him. However, despite their intervention, the attending physician, Dr. Kingsley Dele, pronounced him dead while treatment was still ongoing.
Following the incident, local authorities and relevant officials visited the hospital for inspection. Reports confirmed that Arunachalam’s body was found lying on a hospital bed with an intravenous drip still attached. No physical injuries or signs of violence were observed on his body at the time of examination.
The cause of his sudden death has not yet been officially determined, though preliminary observations suggest it may have been a medical emergency.
The deceased’s remains have been deposited in a mortuary as arrangements are underway to contact the Indian Embassy. Efforts are being made to notify his next of kin and initiate necessary diplomatic protocols for the repatriation or further handling of the body, in line with international procedures.
Green Hills Agricultural Products Ltd. has yet to release an official statement, but sources within the company described Arunachalam as a dedicated and hardworking professional who had spent several years contributing to the firm’s operations.
As of the time of filing this report, no foul play is suspected. Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and an autopsy may be conducted if requested by the family or diplomatic representatives.
