Tobi Makinde, widely loved for his hilarious role as Timini in the hit series Jenifa’s Diary, is setting the record straight: he is not fellow Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson.
In a candid chat on the Echoo Room YouTube channel, the rising actor opened up about the ongoing identity mix-up caused by his on-screen name.
“A lot of people feel like Timini is my real name,” Makinde said. “They mistake me for the real Timini [Egbuson].”
Double Take: Two Timinis?
Makinde explained that fans frequently approach him, convinced he is Egbuson, the star of several blockbuster Nollywood films, because of their similar looks and, of course, the Timini name.
“Sometimes when they see me, it's a lot of confusion,” he shared. “They’ll say, ‘No, but Timini Egbuson is the one in Jenifa’s Diary now,’ and I have to explain that I’m Tobi Makinde.”
The actor added that he’s often told how much he and Egbuson resemble each other, which only deepens the mix-up.
Same Name, Different Stars
While both actors are making waves in the industry, Makinde is carving out his own path, one role at a time. His portrayal of Timini in Jenifa’s Diary has made him a household name, but he’s more than just his character, and definitely not to be mistaken for someone else.
“I have to correct and say, ‘My name is Tobi Makinde,’” he emphasized.
