In a deeply emotional interview on The Lucky Udu Experience YouTube channel, Grace Ene, a young plus-sized woman, opened up about the pain and prejudice she’s faced due to her body size. Her story has struck a chord with many, shedding much-needed light on the often-ignored impact of body shaming.
Grace, described as chubby, bravely shared her journey, revealing how hurtful comments have shaped her self-image and mental health over the years.
“Some people have said things like ‘you’re bigger than your age,’ ‘you’re shapeless,’ ‘you look like a suit and leggings,’ and even ‘you look like an amoeba,’” Grace revealed.
The Emotional Toll of Cruel Words
These demeaning remarks, Grace said, severely damaged her self-worth.
“It actually brought down my self-esteem and self-confidence,” she admitted.
“This has made me introverted, and sometimes I feel like I’m not worthy to be in some places or to experience certain things.”
Her candidness offered a raw glimpse into the emotional toll that body shaming takes, not just on appearance, but on a person’s sense of belonging and identity.
A Painful Memory from School
One of the most painful memories Grace shared came from her time in secondary school. During a special outing, students were required to wear a tailor-made outfit. Unfortunately, the one made for her didn’t fit properly.
“They told me it was too tight and revealing. I was asked to go back. If I didn’t have anything else to wear, I should stay in the hostel,” she recalled.
The incident left her feeling isolated and embarrassed—feelings that have lingered for years.
A Voice for the Voiceless
By telling her story, Grace hopes to inspire others and raise awareness about the hidden trauma caused by body shaming. Her courage serves as a powerful reminder 6 everyone—regardless of size—deserves dignity, kindness, and acceptance.
Her message is clear: body shaming is not harmless. It hurts, and it has lasting effects.
💬 "I’m sharing my story so others don’t feel alone," Grace said.
"People need to know that words can break someone—and we all deserve better."'
