Tragedy struck in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State over the weekend as a 25-year-old man, Michael Ikuedowoni, was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Augustina Mowari, following a heated argument over suspected infidelity.
The couple, who reportedly lived together in a single-room apartment, were said to have been entangled in a troubled relationship marked by frequent disputes and allegations of unfaithfulness.
According to a source familiar with the situation, the fatal confrontation began when Augustina accused Michael of cheating on her. The confrontation escalated into a violent altercation, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed Michael in the leg with a pair of scissors.
“They had always had issues, mostly about trust,” said a source who requested anonymity. “That day, it turned physical. Augustina accused him of seeing another woman, and during the fight, she picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed him.”
Michael was initially taken to a nearby hospital where he received treatment and was discharged with medication. However, his condition worsened at home, with reports of his leg becoming severely swollen.
“He was rushed back to the hospital on Sunday night after his condition deteriorated,” the source added. “Despite medical efforts, he unfortunately died.”
Spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a statement to reporters.
“There was an argument between the two, which led to the suspect stabbing the victim with scissors,” Ayanlade said. “The victim later died in the hospital.”
The police also confirmed that the suspect, Augustina Mowari, has been arrested and remains in custody. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities say the case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing concern over rising cases of domestic violence and urging couples to seek mediation rather than resort to violence.
