A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has convicted and sentenced two men, Ibrahim Aisami and Bunu Usman Dankoli, for offences involving over N10.5 million in fraudulent activities.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed the convictions in a post via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday.
The cases were presided over by Justice Aisha Kumaliya on Monday, July 28, 2025.
Ibrahim Aisami, also known as Ibrahim Mai Kaza, was first arraigned by the EFCC on May 20, 2023. He faced charges of criminal breach of trust after selling two vehicles—a Mercedes Benz C200 and a Hyundai Country—valued at N3.5 million. The vehicles had been entrusted to him for safekeeping by their owner, who had travelled to Chad.
The court found Aisami guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison or a fine of N50,000. Additionally, he was ordered to refund N2 million to the car owner or face an additional three-year prison term.
According to the EFCC, Aisami sold the vehicles without the owner’s consent and converted the proceeds for personal use.
In a separate ruling on the same day, Justice Kumaliya also convicted Bunu Usman Dankoli on an amended charge of criminal misappropriation of N7 million.
The EFCC told the court that the money had been given to Dankoli for the execution of a contract allegedly awarded by a non-governmental organisation. Instead of carrying out the contract, he diverted the funds for personal use.
Dankoli pleaded guilty to the charge. The EFCC confirmed that the victim had been fully refunded prior to the sentencing.
The court sentenced Dankoli to a fine of N100,000 or 10 years’ imprisonment in default.
The EFCC said the convictions demonstrate its continued commitment to prosecuting financial crimes and ensuring accountability for corrupt acts across the country.
