A serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member was reportedly scammed at Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos, after unknowingly purchasing a package of fufu disguised as an iPhone.
The bizarre incident came to light through a series of viral posts on X (formerly Twitter), where a video showed the visibly distressed female corps member holding what she believed to be a newly purchased mobile phone, only to discover it was a lump of starchy food wrapped convincingly to resemble a smartphone.
In the video, bystanders can be heard reacting with shock, disbelief, and laughter, highlighting the brazenness of the scam. According to reports, the victim had paid a substantial sum, believing she was buying a genuine device.
The incident has sparked widespread reaction online, with many users expressing sympathy while also questioning how such scams still occur in a market as notorious — and cautionary — as Computer Village.
