🎬 Actress Joy Edjeren Sparks Controversy with Confession About Funding Nollywood Dreams Through Affair

Joy Edjeren

Nigerian-born actress and filmmaker Joy Edjeren has ignited widespread discussion after making a bold and emotional confession about her path into the film industry. In a candid interview with Delafé Testimonies, Edjeren revealed that her move into Nollywood film production in the U.S. was financially backed by an affair with a wealthy married man.

The former gospel singer turned filmmaker shared that after her music career failed to take off, she pivoted to filmmaking. But the transition wasn’t easy. Despite having promising ideas, Edjeren claimed she encountered repeated rejection and exploitation, as most businessmen she approached for sponsorship sought sexual favors rather than investing in her vision.

Feeling disillusioned and desperate, she eventually gave in, accepting funding from a man she knew was married. In a twist that deepened her moral struggle, she revealed that she had met the man’s wife before and even sold her wigs. Ironically, it was the wife who introduced her husband to one of Edjeren’s music videos, which sparked his interest.

“Something told me, ‘You are going to date this woman’s husband.’ I said, ‘God forbid,’” she recalled during the interview.

Despite her initial resistance, Edjeren confessed she wrestled with internal conflict and ultimately rationalized the affair using a distorted interpretation of a Bible verse:

“Do not be overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself?”
She admitted that this reasoning gave her the "permission" she needed to cross a line she had once vowed not to.

“My heart sank when I realized who he was. But then the money started coming in heavily,” she said.

Her confession has sparked intense online reactions, ranging from harsh criticism to empathetic understanding. Many viewers praised her honesty and vulnerability, while others questioned the ethical implications of her actions and the broader societal pressures that push women in entertainment toward compromising situations.

Joy Edjeren’s story sheds light on the often unseen challenges and dilemmas faced by women trying to break through in male-dominated industries. While controversial, her testimony invites necessary conversations around desperation, power dynamics, and the moral cost of success.
