The leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned that the emergence of Nentawe Yilwatda as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may impact the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections, unless a strong support structure is put in place around him.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele described Yilwatda as “clever and calculative,” but cautioned that the "aura of victory" around the new chairman remains uncertain.
“The newly elected APC chairman will give the party tough work,” the statement read. “He is clever and calculative, but the aura of victory around him is dicey. He will need a very strong committee to be in the system with him; otherwise, I don’t see him driving the party to victory in 2027.”
The cleric expressed concern over Yilwatda's ability to mobilize support at the grassroots level, suggesting that his focus may tilt heavily toward the elite, which could alienate the broader voter base.
“APC needs to brace up well if they want to win,” Ayodele warned. “They need a lot of grassroots work because this man will not be able to handle grassroots people. The party needs to work extraordinarily in order to capture the grassroots people, but the new chairman will only work for elites.”
While acknowledging Yilwatda’s intelligence, Primate Ayodele emphasized that strategic and spiritual preparation would be essential for navigating the political challenges ahead.
Speaking further on the significance of the 2027 elections, the cleric remarked that the poll would be pivotal for Nigeria’s future.
“The 2027 election won’t be a baby election; it will determine a whole lot of things like the unity of the country,” he said. “The chairman must be supernaturally endowed on all sides because they can use anything to take him out. He must be able to address party issues because there will be different attacks.”
The warning comes amid ongoing political recalibrations within the APC as the party prepares for the next election cycle.
