A 7-year-old girl, Skylar Baker, is fighting for her life after being struck by a stray bullet while sleeping in her own home in Pageland, South Carolina. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, and authorities believe it was a drive-by shooting.
Skylar suffered life-threatening injuries, including a bullet wound to the right side of her brain. She was airlifted to a hospital, where she was put on a ventilator and underwent surgery to insert a plate in her head. Her condition remains critical, and she is scheduled for a craniotomy.
The Pageland Police Department is investigating the shooting and is asking the public for assistance. Authorities believe the suspect remains at large, and the shooting was a "careless act of violence." Police Chief Dean Short has urged the community to come together and support each other in the face of this tragedy.
Skylar's mother, Essence Chambers, is pleading for prayers and support for her daughter's recovery. "Before all of this, she was completely healthy," Chambers said. "I want everybody to keep praying for her." The community is in shock, and many are calling for an end to senseless violence.
