Two drivers of Coaster buses have been rewarded for their bravery in foiling an attempt by hoodlums to rob their passengers along the Aba-Umuahia axis of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. The incident occurred when six armed men, posing as genuine passengers, infiltrated the two fully loaded buses.
The first driver, noticing suspicious behavior and being threatened at gunpoint, refused to stop at a dangerous location as demanded by one of the suspected criminals. Instead, he drove faster straight to the Isialangwa military checkpoint on the expressway, where soldiers on duty searched and arrested the suspects. The second driver was also alerted, and the remaining suspects in the trailing vehicle were intercepted and arrested
The President of Cooperative Motor Union Abia State, Mr. Chukwuma Azode, rewarded the two drivers with cash and granted them special loading rights in the motor park. Mr. Azode praised their bravery, vigilance, and smart response, saying, "This act of courage is a clear result of the consistent orientation and safety training we give our drivers"
Mr. Azode also cautioned other drivers to remain vigilant and proactive, reporting suspicious activity without hesitation. He emphasized the importance of citizens working together to fish out criminals and maintain peace in the community.
