A search operation was launched in Tasmania for a young couple, Leannedra Kang, 25, and her boyfriend Takahiro Toya, who failed to board their flight back to Brisbane. The pair had rented a white Toyota Corolla and were traveling around the state. Kang's family grew concerned when her phone's last location was detected in Goshen, a rural area in northeast Tasmania, which was not part of their planned itinerary.
Tragically, police have confirmed that two bodies, believed to be those of the missing couple, were found on Friday evening in a crashed vehicle submerged in water off Tebrakunna Road. The car is thought to have driven off a bridge near Pioneer, between St Helens and Derby. Inspector Luke Manhood stated that the vehicle had left the roadway and ended up in the water, with no signs of suspicious circumstances.
Police issued an appeal to the public with a photo of the missing pair and the rental car, seeking information about their whereabouts. Kang's sister had taken to Facebook to express her family's concern, pleading for anyone with information to come forward. A report will be prepared for the Coroner as part of the ongoing investigation.
Inspector Manhood expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the couple, describing the incident as a "tragic outcome." The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated, and police are working to determine the exact cause of the accident.
