A ghastly accident on the Kaduna-Zaria highway has claimed the lives of eight members of the same family. The victims, including women and children, were killed after visiting their grandmother to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival. The incident has left the community in shock and grief.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims were standing beside the road in the Barakallahu area, waiting for a commercial vehicle to take them to their destination, when a speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into them. The vehicle involved in the accident was an ash-colored Mercedes GLK Jeep reportedly driven by a young boy from the Rigachikun community.
A family member of the deceased, Malam Jamilu Usman Mai Yadi, recounted his pain, saying, "We lost eight members of our family that evening." He added, "My wife, Khadija Umar, our two sons, Sadiq, and Muhammad, along with her sisters and their aunt, all died. Ten of them were hit, and only two survived, but they're in the hospital."
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident and attributed it to overspeeding and slippery road conditions caused by heavy rainfall. According to the Kaduna sector commander, Tijjani Iliyasu, the driver lost control of the car, veered off the road, and struck the unsuspecting pedestrians.
