Suspected Lakurawa Bandits Kill Four in Sokoto Farming Community

Suspected Lakurawa bandits launched a deadly attack on Sabiyo Village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Tuesday, killing four residents and injuring one farmer. The assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons and riding both on foot and motorcycles, first ambushed two farmers on their farmland.

One of the farmers, Aminu Sama'ila, was shot in the neck and chest but survived and is currently receiving treatment. The second farmer, Usman Sama'ila, remains missing as search efforts continue. After targeting the farmers, the gunmen reportedly stormed the village, opened fire, and killed four people on the spot.

Security operatives, including troops of Operation Fansan Yanma, police tactical units, and community guards, have launched a manhunt for the attackers across bush paths and border areas between Nigeria and Niger Republic. The motive appears to align with a pattern of similar attacks by Lakurawa bandits, who have been terrorizing agrarian communities during the farming season.

The incident adds to growing fears of food insecurity and displacement across Sokoto's border communities. The attack highlights the need for increased security measures to protect farmers and rural communities from banditry and other forms of violence.
