After Nigeria's 1-1 draw with Russia, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle pinpointed a crucial area that needs improvement – playing under pressure. The match, held at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, saw Russia take the lead after centre-back Semi Ajayi conceded an own goal. However, substitute Tolu Arokodare restored parity for Nigeria in the 71st minute.
Chelle observed that the Super Eagles struggled with playing under pressure, a problem that has persisted over their last three matches against Ghana, Jamaica, and Russia. "We will make changes, we will work on playing under pressure, because this problem has already arisen in the last three matches," Chelle stated in his post-match interview.
The coach highlighted that Nigeria needs to learn to cope with opponents' pressing, particularly in the second half when Russia's tactics left the Super Eagles "practically left without the ball." Chelle praised the Russian footballers' effective strategy, acknowledging the need for his team to adapt and improve.
