A manhunt is underway for 21-year-old Angel Gomez Montanez, accused of killing 18-year-old Christopher Rodriguez Lara during a rent dispute at an apartment outside Houston. The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Thursday, and Lara was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Zuleyka Ortiz, Montanez had been living in their family home for three months without paying rent. The family, who took him in, had asked him to pay, but he didn't. "The only thing we told him is we needed the money for rent," Ortiz said. Montanez left the house but later returned, claiming to have $250 for the rent. However, instead of paying, he shot Lara when the teen stepped outside.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation, and a murder warrant has been issued for Montanez. Authorities believe he may still be in the area since he doesn't have a car. The family is seeking justice for Lara's death, with Ortiz stating, "He had no right to take someone's life. He has to pay for what he did."
If you have any information about Montanez's whereabouts, please contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office at (713) 274-9100. As the community grapples with this tragic event, it raises questions about the underlying issues that lead to such violent disputes.
